The massive off-road capable model also has several features that are hard to come by anywhere else and some that are truly class-exclusive. Today, we’re going to take a look at five features that were introduced on the Hummer EV Pickup, brought over to the Hummer EV SUV, and highlight the ingenuity of this vehicle that manages to emulate both rugged capability and refined luxury at the same time. #1. Crab Walk The Hummer EV SUV may be greener than its predecessors, but it’s still a massive vehicle. Maneuvering a large SUV can be difficult in tight spaces, whether that’s in a parking lot or out on an OHV trail. GMC has addressed this issue by giving the Hummer EV a four-wheel steering system. While four-wheel steering is by no stretch a new technology, it’s not exactly common either. But it does have several benefits, all of which make even more sense when applied to a large and heavy vehicle like the Hummer. In Automatic Mode, the four-wheel steering system works similarly to systems that have been used in other vehicles, like performance cars, for decades. At low speeds (less than 25 mph), the front and rear wheels turn in opposite directions. This allows you to make tighter turns than you could with front-wheel steer, so you can more easily park, get around delivery trucks with their hazards on in the middle of a tight city street, or avoid obstacles on a trail. This system is so effective that the 2025 Hummer EV SUV (17.2 feet long and 7.2 feet wide) has the same 35.4-foot turning circle as a 2021 Chevy Bolt EV (13.7 feet long and 5.8 feet wide). At high speeds, however, making a turn extra tight can be dangerous. So if the Hummer is going more than 25 mph, the steering system instead turns the front and rear wheels in the same direction. This makes turns less dramatic and increases stability so you can stay in control behind the wheel. This can be especially helpful when towing heavy loads. That’s already impressive enough, but the Hummer EV has one more trick up its sleeve. You can switch from Automatic Mode to Crab Walk Mode to get out of sticky situations by driving diagonally. This mode basically lets you turn both sets of wheels in the same direction while driving at low speeds. And if you want to use good old-fashioned two-wheel steering, you can turn the system off. Between all of these options, you can truly be ready for any situations that you might encounter, either on- or off-road. #2. Extract Mode When you’re driving off-road, being able to go around obstacles isn’t always enough. Sometimes, you have to be able to go over them. That’s why ground clearance is such an important spec for off-road vehicles. The 2025 Hummer EV SUV offers 10.2 inches of ground clearance under normal circumstances. However, it also comes standard with an adaptive air suspension system. During normal driving, the suspension makes slight adjustments to offer a comfortable ride, whether the road is paved and flat or bumpy and uneven. But when the going gets tough, it has another trick up its sleeve: Extract Mode. When you activate Extract Mode, the Hummer EV uses its adaptable suspension to rise up about six inches, giving it 16 inches of total ground clearance. This can definitely come in handy if you spy a boulder or fallen tree blocking your path. It also allows for more water fording. The Hummer EV SUV can ford 26 inches of water in Standard Mode and 28 inches in Terrain Mode. In Extract Mode, the navigable depth increases to an impressive 32 inches of water. #3. Watts to Freedom Off-roading isn’t just about navigating around (and over) obstacles. It’s also attractive to thrill-seekers because there are plenty of wide open spaces where off-road vehicles can let loose. That’s where the Hummer EV’s Watts to Freedom feature really shines. In typical driving, the Hummer’s settings balance performance with conserving battery power. But you can use the Watts to Freedom feature to unleash the electric powertrain’s full potential for short bursts, giving you access to a GMC-estimated 830 hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque on the 3X trim, which is powered by a trio of electric motors. In practice, that means you can zoom from a standstill to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. That’s an impressive zero-to-sixty time for just about any vehicle, but for a model as large as the Hummer EV, it’s truly mind-boggling. #4. UltraVision Getting a look at your surroundings is always tricky in a big SUV. A high driving position is great in many situations, but it can block lower obstacles from your field of view. To solve this problem, the Hummer EV SUV is available with up to 17 camera views that let you see your surroundings in real time on the 13.4-inch high-definition touchscreen. The screen offers easy controls for switching between different views and is large enough to clearly display multiple views at once. Cameras include a rearview camera that can also be displayed on the standard rear camera mirror (which switches between a traditional mirror view and a wider camera view), an available auxiliary trailer camera that makes Transparent Trailer View possible, standard HD Surround Vision (which gives a 360-degree view of the area around your SUV), and available front- and rear-facing waterproof underbody cameras that come with washers and lens protectors. #5. Infinity Roof Since the Hummer EV SUV can be driven on- and off-road, it’s highly configurable to allow you to switch between the two. In addition to the adaptive air suspension system, another feature that provides optimal ride comfort on the road or the trail is the Infinity Roof. If you’re driving on the road and want to protect yourself from smog, wind noise, and debris that’s getting kicked up by the wheels of the vehicle around you, you can use the roof panels to keep the world firmly outside the cabin. But when you’re out in the fresh air and want to bring the outside in, you can take the roof panels off and enjoy the ride. When not on the roof, the panels can be stored in the spacious front trunk. It offers up to 11.3 cu.ft. of space, interior lighting, D-rings for securing cargo, and a 12-volt outlet that can power electronic devices on the go.
